Introduction

CPCS Slinger/Signaller Overhead Cranes. Note: mobile cranes require an additional day.

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge in order for them to undertake the role of the Slinger/Signaller. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to select the correct lifting accessories, attach them to loads safely and guide the load using the appropriate hand signals.

  • • Legislation: LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA.
    • Codes of practice – BS7121.
    • Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations.
    • Crane appreciation crane types, capabilities and limitations.
    • Lifting accessories
    • Documentation and certification for lifting accessories.
    • Sling Angles.
    • Slinging techniques.
    • Down rating of accessories.
    • Communications.
    • Establishing load weight and centre of gravity
    • Proximity hazards
    • Selecting lifting accessories.
    • Attaching accessories to different loads
    • Signalling for the lifting, transferring and positioning of loads
    • Safe use of radios

On Completion

Successful candidates will be awarded a Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Slinger/ Signaller (Lifting Operations)

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for individuals with limited or no experience in slinging and signaling who wish to gain a CPCS trained operator card.

Course Duration

The duration for slinger/signaller is a minimum of 3 days depending on experience.
