Introduction

The CPCS Certification Card scheme is operated by NOCN and is used to demonstrate the skills of plant operators – CPCS is the mostly widely recognised scheme for plant safety.  CPCS cards are issued on successful completion of competence programs that include both theory and practical tests. This helps to demonstrate the operating skills and health and safety awareness of plant operators.

Generally, operators will work towards the award of a CPCS Red card which denotes the holder is a Trained Operator on the category of plant that for which they have passed CPCS tests. Once awarded a Red card, through the achievement of an NVQ, the operator can then work towards obtaining a Blue card to become a Competent Operator.
