This safety course will make the learner more aware of the dangers of excavation work. The familarisation of the necessities needed for identifying various ground conditions is a vital part of this course, along with understanding different ways of using the correct ground retention systems.
This course will use a blend of classroom and practical learning to help the learner gain a comprehensive understanding of all the units.
This course can be delivered at the academy or on site if conditions are suitable.

Course Outline
This course has been designed to cover the following areas:
Category 3: Install, inspect and remove timber shoring systems
Category 4: Install, inspect and remove steel shoring systems
Category 5: Install, inspect and remove proprietary shoring systems
Objectives of this course include Identifying the dangers that the worker is exposed to when working in excavations, differentiating soil types and conditions, Recognising and installing suitable ground retention systems and carrying out risk assessments that are specific to excavations.
On Completion
Upon successful completion and achievement of this course, learners EU Skills card will be updated with recent qualifications
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for both new entrants and existing construction and utility sector workers who are carrying out their roles around utilities. This will also benefit managers and supervisors who are required to oversee and/or carry out this type of work.
All attendees are required to provide photographic identification prior to attending the course.
