Today, we had the chance to catch up with Leighton Caine, a former learner from the North Warwickshire Bootcamp.  Leighton was unemployed at this time and saw this programme as an opportunity to gain new skills to enhance his careers prospects.

Leighton was part of the second cohort of North Warwickshire learners and stood out as a motivated and determined individual. Despite undergoing surgery just two days before starting his course at Hercules Construction Academy, he showed up every day, giving 100% effort. In addition to his commitment, he would pick up fellow students before the course, demonstrating not only his drive but also his kindness and team spirit.

Now employed by Hercules Site Services Plc as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager on a Costain site in Solihull, Leighton has exceeded expectations. His manager, Richard Giles, had only positive things to say about him.

Richard shared, “While observing Leighton during his training session at Hercules Academy, it became evident that he possesses strong leadership qualities. On the day of my visit, he was leading a group of fellow students, demonstrating his ability to guide, motivate, and support his peers. His natural inclination to take charge, combined with his collaborative approach, suggested that he is not only comfortable in leadership roles but also effective in them’

When we spoke to Leighton about his new role, he expressed how much he’s enjoying it, seeing it as the start of a promising new career. He highlighted how much he’s learning, both on-site and in the office, and shared how satisfying it is to see his own progress. He also mentioned that the people he works with are very supportive, and there’s a positive working environment throughout the team.

Reflecting on his time at Hercules Construction Academy, Leighton described the experience as “enjoyable.” Having previously worked in the railway industry, he appreciated the opportunity to get back into construction. He praised his trainer, Paul, calling him “the perfect trainer,” and commended Paul’s clear, enthusiastic teaching style and ability to adapt to different learning needs.

Looking ahead, once he has developed his knowledge and skills on site, Leighton plans to take the SMSTS course (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) and a first aid course, recognising the value of continuing learning at every stage of his career.

We are incredibly proud of Leighton’s progress, both at Hercules Construction Academy and in his current role. His journey embodies the purpose of our North Warwickshire Bootcamps: helping individuals succeed through hard work and determination. We’re excited to continue following his career as he works towards becoming a Site Manager.
